Evidence-Based Practice Library Help Guide

Use the OCCC Library Catalog to identify OCCC books, eBooks, and more on your topic. Here are some tips for searching in the OCCC Library Catalog: 

• Keywords: Use keywords, not sentences like you may do in Google (example: wound care NOT how do you treat wounds)
• Multiple Keywords: You may use multiple keywords when doing a search. Start with one and add others as needed to narrow your search (example: stroke and rehabilitation)
• Publication Date: Be aware of the publication date. After your initial search, update the publication date to get rid of older titles in your results list.
• Material Type: If you are looking for a specific material format, select from the "Material Type" list under "Limit Search Results" on the left.

The OCCC Library owns many evidence-based practice books and eBooks. These books are available for checkout, both in the Library and online via EBSCO.

eBooks are a great way to research from home. Follow the steps below or use the slide show to get started.

• From the library homepage, locate the "Start Your Search" box.
• Select "Academic eBooks" from the "Books" tab.
• Type in your keywords or search terms into the search bar.
• Review your results by scrolling down the page.
  • You can add filters or limiters from the Refine Your Results sidebar on the left-side of the screen.
• Click on the title of the book to view the item's record.
• To begin viewing, click on PDF Full Text or EPUB Full Text to begin downloading.
  • You will be asked to login to download and your download will last for 14 days.

You can access citation and emailing tools from the Tool bar located on the right-hand side of the screen on the item record.
